The Forest of Runes is one of the first unlockable areas on the overworld map and is located directly south-east of Trademond. It can be unlocked by accepting either the Lack of Flavor or Forest of Danger quests.
The forest is arranged in a rough circle, with the main entrance in the top left and the boss in the top right. A plant obstacle blocks off a shortcut between the entrance and the boss.
Notable loot include a Bomb and Energy potion on bodies to the west and a chest containing 4 Bombs near the boss.
The Goblin Shaman drops a Goblin Tooth.
The forest was home to a wide variety of wildlife including rodants, squirrels, buterflies, birds, apple trees, and 'Flycatcher Ferns.' And goblins too.
Aura makes mention of knowing the plant called 'Flycatcher Ferns' as a native plant of the Forest of Runes which has a carnivorous diet. This diet helped control the bug population. They used sticky central tendrils to catch their prey, and would even extend their tendrils towards any person who stood too close. Aura says that they're harmless to humans, but the idea of standing near them is "REVOLTING" to her.
Upon entering the forest, Aura notices how only trees of a specific size are cut down, claiming that such foresight would be astonishing in a medieval society. Some cut pieces of lumber can be found around the forest, suggesting that the logging opperations had to end due to the presence of the goblins nearby.
